Fortis Marinemaster 8001 Dive Chronograph Blue

Founded in 1912 and known for producing robust and highly accurate tool watches, Fortis has made a name for itself as a watchmaker who seeks to produce some of horology’s most function-focused timepieces. While the brand hasn’t achieved mass-market penetration similar to other tool watch brands, the brand’s catalog still features some truly impressive models that get true enthusiasts excited, much like the Marinemaster ref. 8001 that we have here. Launched in the early 1970s, the Marinemaster was created to blend the robust construction of a dive watch with the accurate approach of a chronograph into one watch that could handle both tasks, diving (up to an impressive depth of 200 meters) and being used to time fast-paced events like any other chronograph of its time. Powered by the manual-wind Valjoux cal. 72 and sporting a 39mm stainless steel case with a black anodized aluminum bezel, the ref. 8001 was offered in two colorful configurations, both featuring black dials but with contrasting accents, one with blue accents and the other with orange. Offered here we have the blue variant, with blue chapter rings surrounding its subdials and blue accents within its hands. A functional watch with some unique pops of color, the Fortis Marinemaster is a vintage watch with a unique appeal that showcases the impressive ability for watches outside of the mainstream to be full of vigor and appeal.
