Well Preserved and Rare, Perpetual Calendar, Moon Phases, Chronograph Wristwatch in Yellow Gold, With Certificate of Origin, Box and Solid Case Back, Reference 3970 EJ

Model: Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Reference: 3970EJ Case Material: Yellow Gold Bracelet Material: Leather Strap Year: 2002 Movement: Manual Caliber: CH 27-70 Q Case N°: 4177049 Movement N°: 3046481 Dimensions: 36 mm Signed: Dial, Movement and Case Accessories: Box, Certificate of Origin, Booklets and Solid Caseback Introduced in 1986 and produced until around 2004, the 3970 series was designed to succeed the iconic reference 2499, continuing the brand’s legacy of creating exquisite perpetual calendar chronographs with moon phases. The 3970 EJ is distinguished by its elegant case crafted in yellow gold, white gold, platinum, and extremely rare pink gold examples. The case measures a balanced 36 mm in diameter, striking a perfect harmony between modern and classic proportions, making it suitable for a variety of wrist sizes and occasions. This versatility ensures that the watch maintains a timeless appeal, blending seamlessly with both contemporary and traditional styles. The production of this specific model can be divided into four different series: First series (1986 – 1988) – Features a snap back case, feuille hands and rectangular indexes. Second series (1987 – 1990) – Features a solid screw-back case “E – Étanche,” feuille hands and baton indexes. Third series (1989 – 1995) – Features a solid screw back case “E – Étanche” with an extra sapphire caseback, baton hands, and lapidated indexes. Fourth series (1994 – 2004) – Same configuration as the third series, however, there is a change in serial number ranges for the movement and case numbers, and from 1997 onwards sold with a deployant clasp. The example here offered is a prime exponent of the fourth series family and has been preserved in remarkable condition by its previous owner. At the heart of the Patek Philippe 3970 EJ is the Caliber CH 27–70 Q, a manually wound movement based on the Lemania 2310, extensively modified and finished in-house by Patek Philippe, visible through a sapphire case back, allowing collectors and enthusiasts to admire the intricate finishing and technical prowess that Patek Philippe is celebrated for. Adding to its allure, this watch not only comes with its original warranty and box but also includes the second, solid case back. This remarkable package enhances the overall appeal, providing collectors with a super rare timepiece that is part of one of the most coveted families in horology history: the perpetual calendar chronograph with moon phases.
