Iconic with their sombrero hat proudly marked with PATEK, these gentlemen whom enjoy exceptional timepieces, wine and cigar were 180 members strong when it first started. And when it comes to pioneers of creating their own “club watch”, the Gondolo Gang with their Chronometro Gondolo pocket watch would be the definition. - Named after an established Patek Philippe retailer in Rio de Janerio, the collection was the legacy between Patek Phillippe and Gondolo & Labouriau from 1872 to 1927. Deployed as a new selling concept amongst the Brazilian market, these exclusive pocket watches operates on a lottery system where the retailer sold the Gondolo (valued at 740 Francs) to members for a reasonable price. Club members who signed up were to pay weekly instalment of 10 Francs over 74 weeks until the watch had been paid. With a weekly drawing, the first week’s member received his watch for no cost, while the next week’s winner made only one payment. Over the following weeks the lotto continued and ensured each member received a watch, and in most cases paying a better price. - Cased in pink gold, the present example 20-lignes Chronometro Gondolo features a highly rare and well-preserved enamel dial. Accented in red at 6, 12, 18 and 24, this pocket watch stands out from its peers. According to our research only 12 examples are known with this configuration. Kept in a private collection for 7 years since it lasted appeared in the market, the Chronometro Gondolo is delivered with an Extract from the archives confirming its manufacture date in 1907.
