The reference 3700 is the first Nautilus reference ever. The model was released in 1976 after the quartz crisis and the release of the Royal Oak in 1972. In these times the success of the Nautilus (also of the Royal Oak) was not yet granted at all. Before this release Patek mainly produced elegant, precious metal watches and absolutely no sport models. But in these times of competition, to be bold and make something completely new was necessary. As we know now their plan on releasing an expensive, sporty, steel, luxury watch finally worked out and the Nautilus became one of the most wanted and most expensive sports models ever. The watch itself has a 39mm steel case, which is often called “jumbo”. The movement is a calibre 920 made by Jaeger-LeCoultre in cooperation with AP and Patek. The watch has only 2 hands for the hours and minutes but no second hand. The dial of the Patek Philippe Nautilus 3700 is certainly a great part of the appeal of the watch. Like most of the creations of the Gerald Genta, it uses textures and plays with light to create a captivating face. The most difficult part to explain is the color of 3700’s dial. While watches that you can see in auctions now have gained patina, some going from pitch black to a warm dark grey, the color of the watch in the listing is more of a light black with a slight hint of blue. Condition: The watch is used, but it is in unpolished condition. There are very slight scratches and signs of wear on the case and bracelet, which can be removed by our watchmakers, if the buyer wants the watch in completely new condition, but with a collection piece like this, some prefer the original condition so we haven't done any work on the case and bracelet yet. Otherwise the watch is in perfect condition inside and outside, it has its extract factory paper from Patek Philippe, and a beautiful original box (from later period).
