To maintain a clean, streamlined dial, Patek combined all the chronograph functions into a single co-axial subdial displaying elapsed minutes and hours—a unique design choice shared with the annual calendar reference 5960, which uses the same caliber. This bold approach to time display was a significant departure from the brand's more traditional offerings. The present version, made in pink gold, features a 40.5mm case and a matching pink gold bracelet. Discontinued earlier this year across all iterations, the 5980 has become even more rare and collectible, further elevating its desirability among enthusiasts.
