Description

Seiko Spring Drive SBWA001 First Model Limited Edition

Launched in 1999 as a limited edition offering of just 500 pieces, the ref. SBWA001 that we have here is one of three references, one more for Seiko (the yellow gold SBWA002) and one for Credor, that introduced Seiko’s now legendary Spring Drive movement to the market. Combining the accuracy of quartz timekeeping with the craftmanship of mechanical watchmaking the Spring Drive movement was a massive leap forward akin to what quartz watches were in 1969, also introduced by Seiko. Boasting a unique 38mm stainless steel case with an unusual integrated bracelet that attaches to the cass through a screw that punctures the case and bracelet and holds them together, the SBWA001 wears on the wrist with a unique presence, as best reflected by its unusual movement, the manual-wind spring drive cal. 7R68, which is on display behind a sapphire crystal exhibition caseback. Boasting a glossy black dial with a power reserve indicator and date aperture, the SBWA001’s display serves as a functional and legible means to display the time for this uniquely wrapped horological package. THE CONSTRUCTION Boasting a rather unique construction, which reflects its unique movement, the ref. SBWA001's stainless steel case is married to an integrated bracelet through an exposed pin that holds the bracelet to the case. THE MOVEMENT Proudly displayed behind a sapphire crystal caseback, the SBWA001 features Grand Seiko's first-ever spring drive movement, the manual-wind cal. 7R68 with rather finely executed finishing to boo.
